Precision watch repair

Core Advantages

The elements that distinguish our service from conventional watch repair.

Formal Training

Our horologists hold credentials from institutions such as WOSTEP and have completed rigorous apprenticeships. This foundational knowledge ensures proper technique and respect for manufacturer specifications.

Preservation Philosophy

For vintage and collectible watches, we prioritize conservation over cosmetic restoration. Original dials, cases, and components are preserved whenever structurally possible, maintaining the watch's historical integrity and collector value.

Consultative Approach

We explain findings in plain language and consult with you before proceeding with any work beyond the initial assessment. You remain informed at each decision point throughout the service process.

Transparent Pricing

Our service rates are clearly stated upfront. If additional work is discovered during servicing, we contact you with a detailed explanation and revised estimate before proceeding.

Proper Equipment

We maintain professional-grade timing machines, ultrasonic cleaning systems, and precision tools calibrated to exact specifications. This equipment ensures accuracy and prevents damage during service.

Detailed Documentation

Every service includes a comprehensive written report. For collector pieces, we provide conservation records and return all original parts in a sealed envelope for your permanent archive.

Professional Expertise

Watch repair requires years of dedicated training. A horologist must understand not only the mechanics of timekeeping but also the specific idiosyncrasies of different calibers, the proper application of various lubricants, the techniques for working with brittle vintage components, and the standards for testing and regulation.

Our team combines formal education from recognized watchmaking schools with practical experience spanning decades. This depth of knowledge allows us to handle complex calibers, diagnose subtle issues, and make informed decisions when faced with unusual situations. We understand when to follow traditional techniques and when to apply modern solutions.

Methodical Process

Our servicing protocol follows established best practices refined over years of experience. Movements are completely disassembled, with each component inspected for wear or damage. Cleaning takes place in professional multi-stage ultrasonic baths with appropriate solutions. Lubrication is applied according to manufacturer specifications — different oils for different friction points, with exact quantities measured precisely.

After reassembly, movements are regulated in six positions and observed over a minimum 24-hour period to ensure stability. Water resistance is tested using calibrated equipment. This thoroughness requires patience, but it delivers results that last.

Service Excellence

We recognize that entrusting a valued timepiece to someone requires confidence. From your initial contact through the return of your serviced watch, we aim to make the experience straightforward and reassuring. Communication is clear. Timelines are realistic. Your questions receive thoughtful responses, not dismissive platitudes.

During the service process, if we discover issues beyond the scope of the initial assessment, we contact you immediately with a detailed explanation and options. We never proceed with unapproved work, and we never inflate estimates with unnecessary procedures.

Thoughtful Pricing

Our rates reflect the actual time and expertise required for proper servicing. A thorough mechanical overhaul cannot be rushed, and attempting to do so results in shortcuts that compromise quality. Our pricing is transparent and based on established service tiers. You know the cost before we begin.

For collector preservation work, pricing considers the additional research, sourcing of original parts, and consultative time involved. While not inexpensive, these services preserve value that far exceeds their cost. A thoughtfully conserved vintage piece retains its historical and monetary worth; a carelessly restored one may be irreparably diminished.

Measurable Results

The outcome of our work is measured in accuracy, reliability, and longevity. A properly serviced movement should maintain rate within acceptable tolerances — typically 0 to +5 seconds per day for modern calibers, though vintage pieces may have slightly wider parameters. The watch should wind smoothly, set cleanly, and display consistent amplitude across all positions.

Beyond the technical metrics, clients report satisfaction with how we preserve the character of their watches. Vintage pieces return with their original patina intact, their dials unretouched, their cases showing honest wear rather than over-polished anonymity. This respect for authenticity is, for many collectors, the most important result.

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive elements that define the Oscillum approach.

Conservation Reports

For collector preservation services, we provide detailed conservation reports documenting the watch's condition before service, all work performed, and any decisions made regarding original components. These reports accompany the watch as part of its permanent archive.

Original parts — even those replaced for functional reasons — are returned in sealed envelopes. This documentation and material preservation maintains the watch's provenance and collector value.

Small Workshop Model

We intentionally limit the volume of work we accept. This allows each horologist adequate time with each timepiece. Movements are not rushed through an assembly line; they receive individualized attention from experienced professionals.

This model also permits us to decline work that falls outside our expertise. If we cannot service a particular caliber to our standards, we say so rather than proceeding inadequately.

Multi-Position Regulation

After servicing, all watches are regulated in six positions (dial up, dial down, crown up, crown down, crown left, crown right) and observed over a minimum 24-hour period. This ensures consistent rate across all wearing positions.

Many services regulate in only one or two positions, resulting in accuracy that varies depending on how the watch is worn. Our thorough approach delivers stable timekeeping throughout daily use.

Specialist Network Access

For vintage watch servicing, we maintain relationships with specialist dealers who source original components. When a part must be replaced, we prioritize period-correct originals over generic aftermarket alternatives.

We also consult with independent master watchmakers when encountering particularly complex or rare calibers. This collaborative approach ensures watches receive appropriate expertise regardless of their complexity.
