Craftsmanship Rooted
in Reverence

Our mission is to care for mechanical watches with the same thoughtfulness and precision that went into their creation.

Oscillum workshop

Our Story

Oscillum was founded in Hualien in 2018 by a small group of horologists who shared a belief that mechanical watches deserve more than transactional service. We felt that the prevailing approach — quick turnarounds, assembly-line processes — missed something essential about these objects. A fine watch is not simply a tool; it is a meditation on time itself, a convergence of artistry and engineering that rewards close attention.

Our workshop is intentionally small. We accept only the volume of work that allows us to give each timepiece the consideration it requires. When a watch arrives, we begin by listening — not metaphorically, but literally. The sound of a movement reveals much about its condition. A skilled ear can detect irregularities in the beat, variations in amplitude, subtle friction that points to wear or insufficient lubrication. This initial assessment guides everything that follows.

We approach vintage and collectible pieces with particular care. The philosophy here is preservation rather than restoration. Original dials are stabilized, not refinished. Cases are cleaned gently, without removing the patina that documents a watch's journey through decades. When parts must be replaced — and sometimes they must, for structural integrity — we source originals through a network of specialists we have cultivated over years. The replaced parts are returned to the owner in a sealed envelope, along with a detailed conservation report.

Our team brings a range of perspectives. Some members trained in traditional Swiss watchmaking schools; others learned through apprenticeships with independent master watchmakers. What unites us is a shared respect for the craft and a commitment to transparency. We explain our findings in plain language. We consult with clients at decision points. We never rush, and we never cut corners.

Hualien, with its slower pace and proximity to natural beauty, suits this work. The rhythm of the workshop mirrors the oscillation of a balance wheel — steady, deliberate, unrushed. We are grateful to serve collectors, enthusiasts, and everyday wearers who entrust their timepieces to our care.

Senior Horologist

An independent watchmaker who apprenticed under master horologists in Geneva, Jun-Hong specializes in chronographs and complicated movements. His regulation work is exceptionally precise.

Our Standards

The principles that guide every aspect of our work.

Professional Training

All team members hold credentials from recognized watchmaking institutions or have completed formal apprenticeships with established master horologists.

Proper Equipment

We maintain professional-grade timing machines, ultrasonic cleaning systems, and precision tools calibrated to manufacturer specifications.

Security & Privacy

All timepieces are stored in a secure, climate-controlled environment. Client information is handled with complete confidentiality and discretion.

Transparent Process

We provide clear explanations of findings, options, and costs. Clients are consulted before any work proceeds beyond the initial assessment.

Methodical Approach

Every service follows established protocols: thorough assessment, complete disassembly, professional cleaning, proper lubrication, precise reassembly, and multi-position regulation.

Environmental Care

We use eco-conscious cleaning solutions where possible and dispose of all chemicals and materials according to environmental regulations.

Documentation

All work is documented with detailed service reports. For collector pieces, we provide comprehensive conservation records and return all replaced original parts.

Continuous Learning

The field of horology evolves. We invest in ongoing education, attend industry seminars, and maintain relationships with technical resources worldwide.

Our Values

Precision, patience, and respect form the foundation of our practice. Precision is evident in the technical work — regulation within tolerances measured in seconds per day, proper lubrication applied to microscopic pivot points, alignment of hands to fractions of a millimeter. But precision extends beyond mechanics. It shows in how we communicate with clients, how we document our work, how we maintain our tools and workspace.

Patience is non-negotiable in watch repair. A movement cannot be rushed. Cleaning requires time. Observation periods cannot be shortened. We resist the pressure to compress timelines when doing so would compromise quality. Some workshops boast of rapid turnarounds; we prefer to deliver work done properly.

Respect manifests in multiple dimensions. Respect for the watchmakers who designed and assembled these calibers decades or centuries ago. Respect for the clients who have chosen to entrust valuable, often sentimental objects to our care. Respect for the craft itself — the accumulated knowledge passed through generations of horologists, the delicate balance between preserving tradition and embracing appropriate modern techniques.

We work across a wide range of calibers: simple hand-wound movements, automatic calibers with various complications, chronographs, perpetual calendars, minute repeaters. Each presents unique challenges. Vintage pieces require particular sensitivity — original parts are increasingly scarce, and decisions about intervention must balance function with preservation. Modern watches often incorporate advanced materials and proprietary lubricants that demand specialized knowledge.

Our workshop houses an extensive technical library, access to manufacturer service manuals, and relationships with suppliers of original components. When faced with an unfamiliar caliber or a particularly challenging repair, we consult with specialists rather than proceeding uninformed. This humility serves our clients well.

We'd Welcome the Opportunity
