I brought my grandfather's 1960s Omega to Oscillum for their Collector Preservation Service. Ming-Wei contacted me before proceeding with any work, explaining exactly what the movement needed and what could be preserved. The dial patina was maintained beautifully, and they returned the replaced parts in a sealed envelope with a detailed report. This level of care is rare.

My watch had been losing time progressively over several months. The Movement Health Screening identified wear in the keyless works and provided clear recommendations. The screening itself was completed the same day, and the report was written in language I could actually understand. I appreciated not being pressured to immediately commit to a full service — they simply presented the facts and let me decide.

The Thorough Mechanical Overhaul took three weeks, which is longer than some shops quote, but the results speak for themselves. My Jaeger-LeCoultre now runs within two seconds per day across all positions. The service report documented everything that was done, including photos of worn components. The only minor point is I wish they had weekend hours, but the quality of work makes the scheduling worthwhile.

As a collector of vintage Rolex watches, finding a horologist who understands preservation rather than restoration has been challenging. Ai-Ling's approach to my 1967 Explorer was exemplary. She cleaned the case without removing the patina, stabilized the tropical dial without touching it, and sourced an original crown through her network. The watch came back looking exactly like itself, just healthier.

What impressed me most was the transparency. When they discovered that the automatic module needed more extensive work than initially anticipated, Jun-Hong called immediately with a detailed explanation and a revised estimate. I never felt like I was being sold unnecessary services. The regulation work on my Zenith chronograph is exceptionally precise — it's now keeping time better than when it was new.

I've had watches serviced at several places over the years, and Oscillum's approach is notably different. They're not trying to maximize volume — they deliberately keep their workload manageable so each piece gets proper attention. My IWC came back running beautifully, and the service documentation was more thorough than I've seen elsewhere. The timeline was realistic, not optimistic, which I appreciated.

Success Stories

Detailed accounts of challenging conservation and restoration projects.

Challenge

A 1952 Patek Philippe ref. 2526 arrived with a seized movement, oxidized case, and a dial showing significant age. The client, a third-generation owner, wanted the watch functional but unchanged in appearance — preserving its history while restoring its mechanical integrity.

Solution

We sourced an original mainspring through a specialist dealer in Geneva, cleaned the case using non-abrasive methods that preserved patina, and stabilized the dial without refinishing. The movement was completely disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated. Original parts were retained wherever structurally sound.

Results

The watch now runs within specification while maintaining its aged character. The client received a detailed conservation report and all replaced parts. Timeline: 9 weeks, including parts sourcing. The watch's collector value was preserved through the conservation approach.

Challenge

A complicated perpetual calendar watch had been over-wound, causing damage to the calendar mechanism. Previous repair attempts had actually worsened the situation, with improper lubricants causing friction and wear. The client was concerned about permanent damage.

Solution

Jun-Hong, who specializes in complicated movements, performed a complete tear-down. Damaged calendar components were carefully repaired using traditional techniques. The movement was cleaned of improper lubricants and re-lubricated according to manufacturer specifications. Multi-position regulation followed.

Results

All calendar functions restored to proper operation. The watch now advances date, day, month, and year correctly, including leap year recognition. Running at +2 seconds per day across all positions. Timeline: 5 weeks. Client reported exceptional satisfaction with the mechanical restoration.

Challenge

A modern automatic chronograph was running 45 seconds fast per day, with erratic behavior in certain positions. The watch had been serviced twice by other shops within the past year, but the issue persisted. The client was losing confidence in the watch.

Solution

Movement Health Screening revealed excessive amplitude variation between positions, suggesting regulation problems and possible magnetization. We demagnetized the movement, performed complete disassembly and cleaning, replaced worn components in the automatic module, and conducted thorough six-position regulation with extended observation.

Results

Watch now runs within 0-3 seconds per day across all positions with consistent amplitude. Chronograph functions operate smoothly. Client reported restored confidence in the timepiece. Timeline: 3 weeks for complete overhaul. Six-month follow-up confirmed continued excellent performance.
